One of the best things about riding a motorcycle in Vietnam is the freedom it gives you. You can go wherever you want, whenever you want – without having to worry about traffic or public transportation. It doesn’t even have to be out of town. Driving within your city limits already offers a lot of things to discover.

Reason 2: Convenience

Another great thing about riding a bike in Vietnam is the convenience it offers. You can easily get around, go anywhere you want to – and do it fast! It saves time because there’s no traffic or delay. You don’t even need advanced planning; just decide where you’re going and hop on your motorbike (or scooter). No worries about finding parking spots either as motorcycles are parked everywhere, including sidewalks.

Reason 3: It’s a Cheap Way to Travel

Another great reason why riding a motorcycle in Vietnam is awesome is because it’s a very cost effective way to travel. Gasoline is cheap (about 1USD as of the time of writing, 2022) and most of the time, you can just park your bike anywhere without having to worry about getting fined or towed away. It’s definitely cheaper than taking a Grab everywhere. Also you get cute gas station doggos every now and then.

Reason 4: Repairmen Everywhere

Motorcycles are such a common mode of transportation in Vietnam that there are repairmen everywhere. If you have any problem with your bike, all you need to do is stop at the nearest shop and they will be more than happy to help you fix it. They’re also very affordable, so it won’t cost you a lot to get your bike repaired or maintained.

Reason 5: Bikes Are Very Affordable

If you love motorcycles, it’s great to know that motorbikes are very affordable in Vietnam. You can get a reasonably good bike for cheap. Got this (then) 16 year old Nuovo for “only” 200 USD! Sure I spent another 200USD in repairs, but that was across 3 years. If you want something more high-end and flashy (or just cute), just spend an extra hundred or two off the bat. But if the work commute is all you have to worry about, then cheap options will work perfectly fine for day to day mobility.

Reason 6: Travel

Beautiful scenery. Open roads. Amazing food. Light traffic in the smaller cities. Why not take your bike out to the next town over? Ever thought of doing a day trip from Danang to Hoi An? It’s certainly cheaper than buses, or flights, and and it will be a more authentic experience. Plus, you can stop anywhere and just get your photography fix.

Reason 7: Weather is Perfect for Riding

The weather in Vietnam is perfect for riding a motorcycle – especially from December to March when the temperatures are mild and it’s not too humid. You’ll be able to enjoy the scenery without having to worry about being uncomfortable or sweaty. Wear a scarf, get your shades on, pretend your bike is a Vespa, and just drive down a nice riverside road.

Reason 8: It’s a Learning Experience

If you didn’t have patience before you started driving, then you will definitely develop some while riding a motorcycle in Vietnam. The locals drive like maniacs and the roads are not exactly designed for motorcycles, so you’ll have to be extra alert when driving. This is a great opportunity to learn how to ride defensively and navigate busy streets quickly and efficiently. Here are some practical tips for first time riders.

So there you have it! Our top reasons why riding a motorcycle in Vietnam is awesome! If you’re looking for an adventure, or just want to save money on transportation, then why not try out motorcycling in this amazing country? You won’t regret it!
