Good Value Salmon Delivery in Saigon – Binh Thanh District

I initially thought this was a joke. Salmon delivery? In Saigon? Nah. I’ve seen (and smelled!) half-off salmon at a reasonably big international supermarket. There was certainly a reason why that shit was half-off. Luckily for me, I had the opportunity to get salmon delivered (or in this case, picked up) last week.

With salmon being so expensive in Saigon (compared to what I know is available in other countries), it is incredibly rare that I find myself even really wanting salmon, let alone ordering salmon. Due to the prohibitive damage to my wallet, I have been forced to resort to seafood substitutes for salmon – including canned tuna, and (gasp!) frozen shrimp.

Just walking around Binh Thanh, I chanced upon a Grab driver doing a pick up form a cold storage facility. Weird, I thought, so of course I went up and poked around. The adventure was worth it.

I didn’t even know that wholesale salmon was available in Saigon, not to mention chilled salmon by the kilo. It felt like I had struck gold – which I’m now sharing with you.

Japanese Style Saba/Mackerel Roe Sushi

The salmon itself is Norwegian salmon, so you can expect it to be quite good quality. Ordered a couple of salmon fillet (deboned!) which was portioned into four pieces – each piece weighing around 250 grams. Had a belly portion further processed into sashimi.

Prices vary based on desired weight for salmon – starting at 250VND per kilo.

They also had a good selection of other choice parts from various dead animals.

Had an order of rib-eye steak (200VND per kilo), and some type of Japanese style mackerel roe that came in bricks, flash frozen.

Cutting Chilled Rib-Eye into Inch-thick Slabs

This already accounted for about 4 kilos worth of God’s creatures, so wasn’t able to get their other stuff – but they definitely have a good selection. Lamb, pork, various types of seafood. Even a Cornish hen!

I’ve never had a Cornish hen. Might have to make it a point to get one just to play around with.

Reasonably good quality meat for about 200VND per kilo

Key downsides here would be that the staff doesn’t speak a lick of English, so it’s Google Translate all the way. You also have to make sure that you have enough freezer space, but I guess that just your own fridge logistics.

Verdict

At any rate, yes, if you’re looking for salmon and beef delivery anywhere in D1, D2, or Binh Thanh, this is your spot:
